Dear
PENSA members:
Time has passed so fast. In the last issue, we mentioned about the new emerging infection,
new strain of Influenza A H1N1 and prayed that it would be controlled soon. Nowadays, the disease is spread all over the world
and kills thousands of people. However, the 13th PENSA Congress in Kualar Lumper, Malaysia had passed smoothly.
We would like to thank the Organizing Committee, Mrs.Harbans Kaur Dhillon, and her team for their effort and congratulate them on their success.
There were 640 delegates from many countries. Our participants came not only from Asia but also Australia and New Zealand, South
and North America, Europe, Germany, Brunei and Iran.
Five abstracts in this newsletter come from this Congress. They are: “The science and art of nutritional assessment .
By Khursheed Jeejeebhoy from ST. Michael’s Hospital, Ontario, Canada; “Formulation and stability aspects of new lipid emulsions
for parenteral nutrition (PN)” by Gil Hardy from University of Auckland, New Zealand; “Nutritional assessment in children with HIV/AIDS”
by Vanessa Fuchs from Mexico; “Nutritional management of the critically ill child - A holistic approach” by Sarah Gopalan from Nutrition Support
Systems, New Delhi; and “PN - related cholestasis in infants - preventable and/or treatable? By Frederick Schwenk from
Mayo Clinic College of Medicine, Rochester, USA. From the variety of topics and authors, you can see that they came from all over the world,
not only from our Asian countries. Thus, after few decades our PENSA activities is well known and become more popular to ones
who are involved in nutritional field. We hope that the knowledge from this newsletter may be benefit for ones who did not have an
opportunity to attend the congress.
The next PENSA Congress will be held in Taiwan in 2011. However, by the end of this month, there will be another congress of the
European Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition in Vienna, Austria. Those who wish can still register to join that congress. |
