Dear
PENSA members:
Firstly,
we have to congratulate Professor Tsann-Long
Hwang and his team for organizing the very successful
6th Congress of PENSA in Taipei last month.
The very informative scientific session was
as impressive as the warm hospitality of the
organizing team. The participants of this congress
composed of 39 oversea lecturers, 134 foreign
attendants and 330 Taiwanese. For those who
missed the event, you still can have a glimpse
of the highlight lecture in our newsletter as
well as in the PENSA website at
http://www.pensa.org.
In this newsletter,
you can find an interesting article about "Synthetic
dipeptide : a new dimension in clinical nutrition"
from Professor Peter Furst, the ex-president
of the European Society of Parenteral and Enteral
Nutrition (ESPEN). This article is a new step
in development of intravenous formula. Also,
we have an announcement of the 7th Congress
of PENSA "Nutri-Asia 2001, Novel approach
in Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition" which
would be held on August 24th - 26th , 2001 in
Bali in conjunction with the 8th Indonesian
International Symposium on Shock and Critical
Care. Those who are interesting, can contact
the organizing committee directly, or through
PENSA Center in Bangkok.
There is some change
in the program. The PENSA workshop on "Nutrition
Support Team in Adult Patient" which is
scheduled on February, 2001 has to be postponed
for a certain period due to the constrain in
the budget. We will make an announcement about
the workshop later, if the situation is better.
Our last paragraph
is dedicated to the memorial of Professor Dr.Vichai
Tanphaichitr who had passed away last month.
Professor Vichai was an excellent doctor, teacher,
and researcher who dedicated his whole life
working in the field of nutrition and was one
of the founder of clinical nutrition science
in Thailand as well as in Asia. His works are
world widely accepted and publicated. His enthusiasm
in work will always be in the memory and be
followed by his students and colleague. May
he rest in peace.
