Patients
with chronic renal insufficiency are often undernourished.
In addition to adequate calorie intake, specific
requirements of amino acid for patients with
renal insufficiency must be seriously taken
into account. Traditionally, the essential amino
acids (EAA) are administrated. Plasma imbalance
of amino acid is thus frequently found in human
body due to inappropriate administration of
EAA and non-essential amino acids (NEAA).
In this study, we used proportional formula
of amino acid solution (Nephrosteril, 7% L-amino
acid, EAA:NEAA = 6:4) to study 12 chronic renal
insufficient patients. These patients received
3-day diet control of 35 Kcal/kg/day. Pre-infusion
blood samples were taken. Nephrosteril (0.5
gm AA/kg/day) + restriction oral diet (0.5 gm
protein/kg/day) was then infused for 5 days.
Post-infusion blood samples were taken as well.
The results revealed no change in the profile
of amino acids (22 amino acids), especially
in lysine, threonine, and histidine. Amino acids
of phenylalanine & methionine did not show
unbalanced after infusion. The biochemical data
did not change due to short time of infusion.
In conclusion, infusion of Nephrosteril can
maintain balanced amino acids in patients with
chronic renal insufficiency.
