Talking about ethics
in parenteral and enteral nutrition we have
to adopt the concept propose by I E Thompson
(C.I Phillips ed. Logic in Medicine, BMJ Publishing
Group 1995, 170-192) who divided the ethics
into 4 (four) levels, these are macro ethics,
meso ethics, macho ethics and micro ethics.
The macro ethics is concerning in the ethical
thinking and decision in the level of decisions
makers such as the World Health Organization,
the government, medical society as well as PENSA.
The role of PENSA is promoting the ethical conduct
in the field of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition
among societies and doctors in the area of ASIA.
In the level of meso ethics and macho ethics,
research and establishment of standard procedure
are the main topics. One of an example of meso
ethics in research in parenteral and enteral
is, that is does not allow to compare the substance
(nutri-ent) with placebo, as nutrition is an
obligatory for the patient as well as for healthy
people.
In the level of micro ethics. The topics are
the ethical conduct of doctors in practicing
of parenteral and enteral nutrition and in the
delivery of nutrition to the patient. The basic
concept in the level of micro ethics are: a.
Everything only for the benefit of the patient.
b. Do not harm. c. The doctors do the best.
The
purpose of this abstract is to show to the community
that PENSA fulfill the duty in the promoting
ethics among members as mention in the concept
of macro ethics.
