Dear
PENSA members:
We would like to dedicate this issue of the PENSA newsletter
to the memorial of the victims of the deadliest event occurred on
December 26th, 2004. The earthquake in Sumatra resulted in the
tsunami which devastated the coast line of Indian Ocean. More
than 250,000 people died, nearly 100,000 were missing and millions
have been homeless. Even thousands of the victims are tourists
from Europe and other continents, most of the people attacked
by the tsunami are our Asian people especially our active
country-members: Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia and India.
We would like to express our deepest sympathy to the
families of all victims as well as all survivors who are still in
nightmares about the event.
In this newsletter
we have a letter from Associate Doctor Soranit
Siltharm, the secretary of PENSA Center in Bangkok
who was in the trauma rescue team who went to
Takuapa, Phangnga in just a day after the event.
This district was the worst place attacked by
tsunami in Thailand. His operation may not related
directly to nutrition support because it was
in the very early phase then. However, it may
give you a glimpse of what the situation was
in just one place. PENSA newsletter is also
open to what you, our member want to send to
share with us, you opinion, your experience
and other comments. Please feel free to send
them to the PENSA newsletter editor at the address
mentioned below.
Many things are still needed to be done to restore what
had been destroyed. This does not mean only the physical and
economical restoration but also for the psychological support for
the survivors, families and even for people in the whole
countries. However, we would like to thank for many letters of
sympathy, money donated and volunteers from every corner of
the world. We have learned that in the time of trouble and
sorrow, friends are very close to us in this small world.
